KOLONIA, Pohnpei – On June 17-18, 2019, the FSM Department of Environment, Climate Change, and Emergency Management (DECEM) had a two-day training in Pohnpei State regarding the Inform & iCLIM Data Portals Projects and the Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) National Implementation Plan (NIP) Project. DECEM representatives conducted the Pohnpei State trainings are Mr. Snyther Biza, GIS and Data Officer; Mr. Skiis Dewey, IT Officer, and Ms. Caroline Werthog, POPs NIP Project Coordinator.

The regional Inform project held a meeting to review progress towards building national and regional capacity to improve environmental decision-making through strengthening planning and reporting in the Pacific. The Inform project is mid-way through implementation and is taking stock of results achieved and hearing back from the countries of the progress in the new tools and processes being developed by the project to address the on-going challenge of compiling high quality data on the environment and making best use of it.

On September 17-19, 2019, the R2R Project Implementation Unit (PIU) convened a planning workshop in Pohnpei to review and assess the current progress of the project at its midterm phase. Delegations from the four States include project focal points, State Coordinators, technical staff, local NGOs, community representatives, other implementing partners at State level and affiliated key partners including regional NGOs, National and CROP agencies.

In the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), communities in the inhabited atolls and islands of Yap State are often at risk of experiencing drought, as well as sudden-onset disasters including earthquakes, flooding, tsunamis, and typhoons.

With support from USAID’s Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA), Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and the College of Micronesia–FSM established the “Adaptive Community Transformation (ACT) on Yap” project to strengthen community resilience to natural disasters.

The Federated States of Micronesia’s State of Environment Report 2018 is now published and ready for its official launch. The SOE presents concise information on the state of environment for FSM with the approval of the FSM national government through the leadership of the Department of Environment, Climate and Emergency Management (DECEM).

Weno, Chuuk FSM - on April 22, 2020 Tuesday, Chuuk EPA staff (Solid & Hazardous Waste Manager and Environmental Educator) with collaboration of (8) eight volunteers from Kuchua, Dublon and Tunnuk, Udot, along with two Chuuk Department of Transportation and Public Works staff and security measure by 2 Police Officers from the Chuuk State Department of Public Safety gathered together at the Downtown Marina Shoreline and collected scattered trash of all kinds as an activity for the Earth Day.
