Each state of the FSM has its own outstanding features and biodiversity treasures. This dataset contains a report for the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan project, highlighting the status of FSM's biodiversity, outstanding features of each state as well as recommendations.

The report is structured in three parts. Part I provides an update to the status of biodiversity in the FSM, including emerging trends affecting biodiversity and the implications of these trends and changes on human well-being.

The report focuses on the impact of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan on national development prerogatives, particularly in relation to the minimization and/or reversal of the rate of biodiversity loss, which is the primary goal of the Convention on Biological Diversity; otherwise known as the 2010 Target.

The report was prepared under a grant provided by the United Nations Support to GEF Eligible CBD Parties

In FSM, PacWaste conducted a healthcare waste management baseline survey in April 2014, through which information was collected on current waste management processes at the country’s four largest hospitals – Yap State Hospital, Chuuk State Hospital, Pohnpei State Hospital and Kosrae State Hospital. The survey found that healthcare waste segregation and containment practices were generally below minimum standard at all four sites, with signage and healthcare waste treatment in need of improvement. This country profile documents a brief overview of waste in FSM.
