This plan highlighted the five key principles for successful adaptation and reduction of present and future coastal hazard risks to Kosrae communities and infrastructure over the next few generations;
1) continued careful management of the natural environment and resources is fundamental for protection from coastal hazards and long term adaption.
2) a primary focus on where to build.
3) a focus on how to build.
4) a recognition that in more situations a reliance on impact reduction measures including coastal defences are not a long term option for a resilient infrastructure and communities.
5) effective adaptation needs to start imminently.
